Love Like the Movies Victoria Van Tiem 9781447269731 Books
I read Nicole Knepper's review of Love Like the Movies on her blog, Moms Who Drink and Swear (which, by the way, is both side-splittingly funny and also heartfelt) and knew immediately that I had to buy and read this book.Love Like the Movies is about a woman, Kensington, who adores romantic comedies. She knows all the classics line-for- line (such as Sleepless in Seattle, Say Anything, You've Got Mail, etc) and dreams of being in passionate, crazy, impulsive love, the kind of love like in the movies.
Kensington is engaged to Bradley, happily, or so she thinks, until her ex, Shane shows up. Shane and Kensi embark on a quest to live out ten great movie moments (unbelievably, Kensi does this for her job) and in the process, Kensi becomes torn between the two men.
What I loved about this book was the humor, the romance, and of course, all the movie references. I love romantic comedies as well, and to read about a fellow aficionado living out the best movie moments, well, that was just pure fun! A notable fact is that Love Like the Movies is an adult book but does not have any bedroom scenes, only one reference.
I liked that Van Tiem keeps this a clean read---it just added to the sweetness and lightness of the entire story. I read this book in a day and I was sad when it ended. It was just fun, pure and simple!

Love Like the Movies Victoria Van Tiem 9781447269731 Books Reviews
Victoria Van Tiem's debut novel LOVE LIKE THE MOVIES brings a fresh, invigorating, and comedic voice to contemporary romance.
Not only is Kensington Shaw is thrown into love—Hollywood-style—with a list of TEN big screen challenges by her ex, but she's happily engaged to a man her family adores. When the movie moments seem to be too much for her heart to handle, Kenzi is left with a major decision...marry the man her family loves, or risk everything for a love like the movies?
Victoria takes TEN iconic romantic comedies—Sleepless in Seattle, Pretty Woman, Bridget Jones's Diary, 27 Dresses, Dirty Dancing, Sixteen Candles, Love Actually, Say Anything, You've Got Mail, My Best Friend's Wedding—and interprets them with complete and utter perfection. Who wouldn't want to experience any of these classic movie moments, right?
Well...this girl, actually.
I'd like to experience Victoria's instead! She has a fantastic way with words and really puts you in Kenzi's shoes. The Sixteen Candles moment, left me with tears of joy and a smile on my face. But when the movie moments are over, what will Kenzi's decision be? The twists and turns getting Kenzi to her choice will keep you on your toes and turning the page until the very end.
To quote my toddler, TWO THUMBS UP!
I love stories like this where old loves reconnect. This one did not disappoint. It was filled with a lot of twists and turns some predictable some not so much. The author did a good job with connecting us to the main characters and setting the scenes. There were some funny moments and some sweet ones, and moments where you just wanted to knock sense into the characters. It was a read that keeps you turning pages.
I don't usually cry at the end of rom-com movies but this book made me cry in a happy way. If you like romantic comedies I recommend this book. I didn't want it to end.
Rating PG-13 (profanity, there is some kissing etc but nothing graphic)
If you liked this try The Pepper In The Gumbo A Cane River Romance (it's kind of like You've Got Mail.)
I bought this book more to support the author (who is awesome) more than to read. And I expected it to be a boringly painful book of longing and looks and heaving.
I was wrong.
The only heaving done is by pregnant women. The longing comes in sparing doses, and the looks are mixed in with great laughs. Take any situation. Make it awkward enough to where you'll be laughing at it. And discover that awkward has a secret setting of 11. Awkward mothers. Awkward ex-boyfriends. Awkward fiances and sister-in-laws. It even has that crazy aunt who shows up at reunions and no one's ever clear exactly who's aunt she is, but she eats all the shrimp.
A very funny book. Romantic comedies are usually like a painful series of running gags, but in this book, that works quite well since the premise is having to re-live all the moments from various romantic comedies where your girlfriend or wife teared up. If you are a man looking to score points with your woman, this is a book that you an actually enjoy before saying "I read one of your books. Now we get to read A Game of Thrones together."
I had heard some good reviews on this book, so I decided to buy it one night and see what the fuzz was about. Kensington Shaw is a girl in love, but is the man that she is engaged to really the one? What about the man who broke her heart seven years ago, does he deserve a second chance? Kensington is in search of a love like the movies.
Writing Style This book is well edited, and wonderfully put together. How the author matches up all the movie scenes and quotes goes so well in the book. As a child of the 90's, these movies are all my all time favorite.
Character Development Kensi, her parents, her friends, the characters are all wellrounded and I could really get a feel on them.
Ease of reading Yes, Yes, and Yes! Totally easy to read, and the way the author had integrated social media into everyday life and relationship, very believable.
Storyline The story line flowed wonderfully, my only pout was that I guess the ending, which is typical for this type of romantic story. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a book, and is a fan of those romantic movies, because this book plays out so many of those scenes. It even made me want to pull out my old DVD player and watch a few of them.
