Taken at the Flood Poirot Agatha Christie 9780007121014 Books

Dame Agatha seldom disappoints and although this novel is not in her top tier, it is very good. Set primarily in an English village just after the Second World War, it highlights the dislocation caused by the war for both those who served and those who did not. The Cloade Family has special problems. They had long relied on the one rich family member for help, but he married and was killed in an air raid. Now his young widow has a life estate and the Cloades have nothing as long as she lives. The author makes the most of this perilous state of affairs with a series of mysteries and surprises seasoned with wit. There is too much reliance on coincidence, the characters are stereotypical and the unnecessary last chapter is nonsensical, but none of this measurably subtracts from the delightful reading experience provided here.

Hercule Poirot is called in to help a family identify a dead man who was blackmailing a recent widow and her brother. So many motives and the deaths keep piling up!
All Agatha Christies's books are throughly enjoying page turners! I have now read ever book and short storey collection she has written and have a wonderful time in doing so!!!!! Great Great Great! I recommend to all who t who love a great page turner!!!!!!!
Agatha Christie has always been one of my favorites. Her characters are well-developed and humorous as well. I love, love, love her detectives and heroes. Always a perfect addition to my library.
I have always loved Agatha Christie, she deserves the Title, 'Queen of Mysteries.' Her characters are people we seem to have met somewhere, we trust some of them, and others we would not let out of our sight in a lighted room full of other people. I was amazed that I had never read this particular book. I do not like to give story lines away. If you are an Agatha Christie fan, it is a must read!
Agatha Christy at her best, I love the details of that epoch. Of course I know the story from the excellent tv adaptation but nevertheless there is great pleasure in reading her language and descriptions.
One of the very few of Christie’s mysteries that I figured the killer & why. Did not like the last chapter. Still I always like reading her mysteries, even this one.
By far one of the best authors of all time. Humor, wit, intrigue, delightful twists and turns combine to make an unforgettable read. There is no one who approaches her genius. I wish there were a million more as good and am glad she was so prolific.
