I just finished reading Heart of an Alpha, a first novel by GA Hurst and I must say, I was impressed. After an action filled opening, the characters began to develop and separate into a host of interesting people, both human and shifter. The exciting pace continued throughout and the development of this post-cataclysmic world was well thought out. Hurst offers an interesting contrast of those born before and after the event. The growing attraction between Gage and Rissa was presented realistically, particularly Rissa's hesitancy in accepting the instant attraction between two destined mates. The love grew organically and was incorporated into the plot naturally. Not once did I feel that the story was written as filler for the romance. All in all, Heart of an Alpha was a different and enjoyable addition to its genre and I look forward to reading Book 2.Tags : Heart of an Alpha: Book One of World of Shifters - Kindle edition by GA Hurst. Heart of an Alpha Book One of World of Shifters edition by GA Hurst Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
In a world where environmental disaster destroyed most of humanity, survivors are few. As Rissa finds out, it was not just humans who survived - in fact, shifters did as well. When Gage saves her from rogue bandits, and then helps her and her friends rescue those captured by the bandits, Rissa is introduced to a world that she never knew existed.
Hurst has done a fantastic job with world building. I'm not usually a fan of post-apocalyptic books, but Hurst provided an interesting world. There is a large cast of characters - both human and shifter - and that can make it difficult at times to keep everyone straight. The writing could be more dynamic - there is a lot of tell instead of show and the dialogue feels stilted at times. However, I thought that the relationship between Gage and Rissa was well done. I appreciated that even though Gage knew as soon as he met Rissa that she was his mate, that he didn't push her and let her set the pace. They had a nice balance, with both respecting the others strengths. I did think that everyone was a little too accepting of one another at times, which, given the setting, didn't make a ton of sense to me. Nonetheless, this was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to other books in this series.
NB I was given a copy by the author.
Starts out with an action pack scenes and carries it throughout. I enjoyed the twists and turns with delightful characters that really keeps you hooked. Rissa is starting to explore the world they find themselves in after disaster destroyed just about everything, they are attacked and fighting for their lives. Gage and his wolf shifters are out trying to help the humans. He catches a scent his mind said mine, his mate, his future but first he must keep her safe. That is easier said than done with bullets flying he sets to work getting her out of the mess she finds herself in. As they get out of the mess he said things her mind just can’t relate to. Could he be serious or is he off in the head. What is the strange feeling she get when she is next to him, it can’t be love it must be lust or is it.
This is a story built on struggle for survival and power as one species comes out from hiding to become the dominant species there just isn’t any reason to hide their supernatural abilities. The world is gone as everyone knew it and it is time to start over leaving the shifters more in control. So much has changed over the last twenty years, some remember a time when things were easier, life was better with technology at its highest, others are too young to remember the good old days. Now everybody is more on even ground each learning how to survive and hoping to get it right.
The author gives you some wonderful interesting characters both humans and shifters. The story is well thought out giving you different aspects from different points of views. I really liked how easily the story builds and blends so well making Gage and Rissa relationship so natural. I liked how the passion builds without it being erotic or graphic letting the read use their mind to see it as they like. The passion is so real it pulls the reader in keeping you invested not only with the story but the characters as well. I really enjoyed all the colorful characters, the struggles real and the romance igniting. This was a big win win for me, I loved it.
Good story. Showing and telling needs work. There were areas where G.A. Hurst repeated information and caused the pacing to slow.
Really enjoyed this story, always like a strong women, and sexy men.
This book was recommended by another author, I loved the premise and gave it a shot. I can't believe it's her first book. Lots of action, strong characters, and one of the most interesting settings I've seen. Can't wait for the next one and that is the best recommendation I can give.
After the Earth has almost self destructed, humans discover that there is more than humans around. Shifters and humans band together to destroy a band of rogues that are intent on ruling with cruelty. Love, hope and a future are forged.
The Earth is destroyed and few human have survived (Preppers where right) . Ressa and her group of humans go out to scout and run into trouble and saved by wolf shifters. A new take on a shifter book -they being closer to nature would survive the destruction of Earth and find mates in the humans left. A great new book and looking forward to the next book in the series.
